- Avoid items that say fragrance or perfume on the label, and look for “phthalate-free” or “no synthetic fragrance” instead.
- Check the code on your plastic bottles—3 and 7 may have phthalates.
- Throw out old plastic baby toys, as phthalates were banned from these in 2008.
- Switch to glass and stainless containers and water bottles.
- Eat more organic items, particularly fruits and vegetables.
- Purchase a whole-house water-filtration system rated to remove phthalates.
- Switch personal care products to phthalate-free by checking out resources like the Environmental Working Group.
- Sweat more, as phthalates could be excreted in sweat. Infrared saunas are a great way to eliminate stored phthalates.
Paraffin and petroleum-derived waxes release chemicals into the air when burned, even if they are “premium grade.” It’s better to choose clean-burning soy wax or beeswax when selecting your candles. At Aroma Seize we use 100% soy wax in all of our candles. When possible, select wax that is naturally derived or sustainably sourced. Many candles are a blend of paraffin and another wax but will call it a “beeswax” candle, for instance, so read your labels or reach out to the brand if you’re not sure. Make sure that any candles you use are 100% soy or beeswax candles.
More About Our Soy: Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oil of soybeans. After harvesting, the beans are cleaned, cracked, de-hulled, and rolled into flakes. The oil is then extracted from the flakes and hydrogenated. The hydrogenation process converts some of the fatty acids in the oil from unsaturated to saturated. This process dramatically alters the melting point of the oil, making it a solid at room temperature. The leftover bean husks are commonly used as animal feed.
The U.S. grows the vast majority of the world’s soy beans, primarily in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana.
Soy’s greatest advantage is that it is completely renewable. While the global reserves of oil shrink and paraffin prices increase, the only limit to the soy supply is how much we choose to grow. The soy that is in your Aroma Seize candle today was likely in the ground less than a year ago. And chances are that same field is growing more soy for the candles to be made in the future.
In addition to sustainability, a well-made soy candle will burn cleanly and slowly. While the performance and beauty of soy candles speak for themselves, soy wax is a great choice as an eco-friendly, renewable, American grown, sustainable, and carbon neutral product.
An essential oil is created by extracting the natural products of different parts of plants, like flowers, fruits, and roots. Essential Oils work energetically on many levels. Like the plants they are derived from, essential oils work on the physical level. For example, herbs like peppermint and fennel help support digestive complaints. But essential oils can also be combined into blends that work on the energetic level.
To understand how these formulations work on an energetic level, we need to understand that every living thing is comprised of atoms that vibrate at a different frequency. The organs in our body have a healthy frequency at which they vibrate. These frequencies help create the blue print of the body, guiding stem cells to develop into different organs. Vibrations like sound, light, color and smell can also be overlaid on damaged or diseased tissue to help it to return to its optimal frequency. Essential oils are the healthy vibration that triggers the body to match that healthy vibration/blue print. When you use essential oils you are changing the frequencies in your body.
What are phthalates? A word almost impossible to spell and pronounce but definitely worth knowing because of their powerful ability to disrupt our endocrine systems. They are typically used in plastic food and beverage containers, as well as in food production, perfumes, insect repellents, hair sprays, nail polish, deodorants, fragrances, air fresheners and laundry detergents, carpet, vinyl floors, shower curtains, raincoats, plastic toys, plastic car parts, and hospital IV tubing and bags. Meats, cheeses, and other dairy products can also have high levels of phthalates.
In short, pthalates wreak havoc on your hormones, are associated with metabolic syndrome, associated with smaller penis sizes in babies and erectile dysfunction. For women they are associated with menopause and hot flashes. We are passionate about making sure that they are not in ANY of our products. Here are some other ways you can avoid them.
We are a small company located in Orange County, California. We create all of our soaps, candles and products in small batches and then send them on their way to you! Our products are hand-made with love and joy, and there is not a single package that ships out without our hands touching it from start to finish!
All of our products are plant based and non-GMO whenever available. Most of our soaps are vegan, with the exception of our Honey Vanilla Oatmeal. Our sprays are all vegan, and our reed diffusers are as well. Our candles are vegan and their wicks are pure cotton, without any lead. The essential and botanical oils we use for our scents are also vegan, as are the non-toxic, natural dyes that we use for our soaps.
